2028 Presidential Candidates: The Complete Election Guide

Declared and potential candidates for the 2028 presidential election ... Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens, other third parties, and independents.

Content

President Trump is not eligible to seek re-election in 2028 ... so expect a large crowd of candidates to compete for the major party presidential nominations. Plus, as always, there will be many third party and independent hopefuls. So, if a person is running, or thinking of running - regardless of party, ballot status, or chances of winning - we have him/her listed below. Major parties first, following by the third party candidates, and finally the independent and write-in hopefuls.

Note: On the below list, Democrats Cory Booker, Roy Cooper, Ro Khanna, JB Pritzker, Wes Moore, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Josh Shapiro, and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy will all face votes in the 2026 midterms. A poor performance - or a defeat - could derail a potential 2028 run. Likewise, everyone on the major candidate list will be campaigning across the country on behaldf of state, congressional and local candidates in the midterms. Watching their level of activity is also a good barometer of interest in the presidential race. Stay tuned.
