President
Trump is not eligible to seek re-election
in 2028 ... so expect a large crowd of candidates to compete for the major party presidential nominations. The Democratic race will be more wide open than the Republican contest, as JD Vance is the prohibitive favorite if he runs (and Marco Rubio becomes the favorite if Vance does not run). Plus, as always, there will be many third party and independent hopefuls. So,
if a person is running, or thinking of running - regardless
of party, ballot status, or chances of winning - we have him/her listed below. Major parties first, following by the third party candidates, and finally
the independent and write-in hopefuls.
Note: On the below list, Democrats Cory Booker, Roy Cooper, Ro Khanna,
JB Pritzker, Wes Moore, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Josh Shapiro will all face votes in the 2026 midterms. A poor performance - or a defeat - could derail a potential 2028 run. Likewise, everyone on the major candidate list will be campaigning across the country on behaldf of state, congressional and local candidates in the midterms. Watching their level of activity is also a good barometer of interest in the presidential race. Stay tuned.

sources of raw political television coverage. Covers the various
likely Presidential candidates. Constantly updated.
Ballot
Access News - This respected publication -- founded
in 1985 by Libertarian activist Richard Winger -- tracks the
attempts of third party and independent candidates for various
offices to secure ballot access in the 50 states. The site also
tracks changes in the law, court challenges and other interesting
tidbits of third party news you usually won't find elsewhere.
Use this page to stay current on which third party and independent
candidates will and won't appear on your state's general election
ballot.
Independent Political Report - In addition to B.A.R. above, IPR is a great source of news on third parties, and third party and independent candidates for various
offices.
Atlas
of U.S. Presidential Elections - Dave Leip prepared
this very informative site, which provides historic voting results
from the Presidential general elections since 1860. Covers
the vote totals for the major party nominees and all the
third party nominees in each race. Useful maps and graphs,
too.<
4President.org
- An online museum of Presidential campaign brochures, bumper
stickers, ads, and key speches from 1960 and forward to the present.
A great site for political junkies.
The
Living Room Candidate - The American Museum of
the Moving Image presents this great online museum of Presidential
campaign TV commercials. The ads - which cover every election
since 1952 (Ike vs. Stevenson) - are an amazing resource.
